About us

Egerton is a remarkable story of co-incidence and good fortune for Rob & Sally Lovemore, a Durban-based family with four adult children.

In the autumn of 2017, their daughter Sarah married Bob Roux on the farm Ramah in the Hopetown District of the Northern Cape. Sarah and Bob settled into farming life on Ramah, and the Lovemore family regularly visited this beautiful part of the world on the Orange River.

During the COVID epidemic of 2020, Bob informed Rob that the neighbouring farm of Egerton was for sale and that the Lovemores should consider the opportunity of acquiring a magnificent Bo-Karoo farm on the Orange River with a 10km river frontage. Thus began, in October 2020, an exciting journey of discovery.

Bob was once more instrumental in today’s affairs of Egerton. He introduced the family to the possibilities of improving the quality of the soil, veld and grasses through the particular practices of regenerative herded cattle farming. Captivated by these possibilities, their eldest son Peter embarked on the rewarding project of acquiring cattle, planning the grazing and rolling out the infrastructural requirements.

In the meantime, Peter and Sarah began designing and constructing a new lodge facility on the riverfront. Existing bungalows were modified and improved to high standards, and a brand-new central lodge was constructed for the use of family, friends and paying guests. The lodge opened in July 2022.

Today, Egerton River House is a well-known destination for lovers of the Karoo and the Orange River. Egerton Farm is a thriving cattle and game farm, well into its fifth year of holistically managed grazing practices.
